CCCUA’s courses are fully transferable with any other school of secondary education in the state as well as many others in the region. CCCUA also has a growing number of transitional degree programs in which students can attain their four-year degree without leaving home (such as in the popular P-4 education program offered at CCCUA by Southern Arkansas University). The college operates campuses in De Queen, Ashdown ad Nashville. CCCUA is the only college in the state with sales taxes from three different counties (Sevier, Little River and Howard), testifying to the college’s popularity and success in the region. Cossatot has long been a leader in Distance Education.
This will be an exciting year for CCCUA with Steve Cole having taken over the position of chancellor on June 30. Frank Adams will remain at the school for a year as Chancellor Emeritus.

Weyerhaeuser Company –
Arkansas/Oklahoma Region Timberlands
Oklahoma Region Timberlands is growing, harvesting and reliably delivering quality southern yellow pine timber products and services to their customers. Products include saw logs for conversion to lumber, poles, pulpwood for pulp, paper and containerboard customers as well as forest generated raw materials that produce energy, primarily in customer power boiler facilities. They also provide recreational opportunities through Wildlife Management Area arrangements in both Arkansas and Oklahoma as well as private lease opportunities on our lands.
The Arkansas/Oklahoma Region consists of 1.1 million acres of land owned and managed by Weyerhaeuser Company. There are 600 thousand acres in Arkansas, 500 thousand acres in Oklahoma as well as nearly 30 thousand acres in Texas.
They have 58 skilled and dedicated employees on staff here in the region with office locations in De Queen, Dierks, Hot Springs and Texarkana, Arkansas as well as Broken Bow, Oklahoma. It’s really important to note also, that Weyerhaeuser has highly valued relationships with many companies contracted to perform forestry services on our property. Some examples of the services they perform are:
· Preparing(tilling and cultivating) the land for planting trees · Tree planting, on average we plant about 1.5 million seedlings a year · Controlling competing vegetation to ensure our trees remain healthy and vigorous · Applying nutrients as needed to ensure forest health · Thinning the pine stands in their very early teens to release the best trees to grow to maturity · Pruning the lower limbs to ensure clear logs and the highest value lumber products · Harvesting and transporting our mature timber crop to meet customer needs · Construction and maintenance of forest roads (6000 miles in our tree farm) · Establishment and maintenance of property boundary lines · Asset protection from fire, insects and disease
As you can see, their presence in our community in the form of jobs and economic impact extends far beyond Weyerhaeuser Company’s direct employee staff.
Good stewardship of the land and forest resources, including water and wildlife, has always been a hallmark of Weyerhaeuser Company. Their lands, forestry operations and in fact, their total wood supply system is certified by a 3rd party registrar to conform to the environmental and sustainability standards of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative or SFI®.
It takes 25 - 30 years for the Weyerhaeuser Arkansas/Oklahoma Region to grow and nurture a stand of seedlings to a final crop and more than a million new seedlings are planted every year. The team and their business associates’ presence in the community reaches deep and broad not unlike the roots and crowns of the trees they grow.

Tires Plus
TIRES PLUS has been one of the community's leading choices for tires since its incorporation in 1983. Tires Plus carries a wide-line of tires and can always order more in. But Tires Plus goes beyond just that. Service on a wide-variety of items, such as brakes, wheels, suspension, and alignment, are also available. Owner Marty Hooker took over the business from his uncle in 1990, but he had worked with the family in the tire business since 1974. Marty and his three ACE-certified employees, each with over 10 years of experience at Tires Plus, can satisfy anyone's tire needs. They have a combined experience of 76 years in the tire business. Marty said the service that comes with a locally-owned, family business sets them apart from many other businesses in the field. His principle is to sell good tires so customers don't have to come back six months later to get a new set. Tires Plus is open 8 a.m. to 5:30, Mondays through Fridays, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. Call 642-TIRE.
